Milton Bradley Wise passed away on Tuesday August 21, 2012 at his home in Slidell, LA surrounded by his entire loving family. He was 91 ½ years old. Born May 23, 1921 in New Orleans, LA to Herbert Miller Wise and Elizabeth Mae Bradley. Milton is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 32 years, Hazel “Emily” Hamann Wise. He was a loving father to his 14 children: Bradley Clare Walthall, Deborah Jean Roy, Terry Patrick Wise, Mary Ann Carter, Anita J. Wyrick, Erwin J. “Bubba” Menesses, Kevin D. Menesses, Michelle E. Menesses, Hiedi Lynn Smallwood, Jacqueline D. Davis, Jeffery Randolph Wise, Jack Bradley Wise, Kevin D. Wise, and Alexis Lynn Wise. He will also be sadly missed by twenty-one grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Milton was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and the surrounding area. He served during World War II in the US Army Air Corps from 1942-1946. As a Navigator and Bombardier with the 5th Air Force, Milton served with the 345th Bomb Group, the Air Apaches. He also served with the 500th Bomb Squadron over the South Pacific.
Milton, also known as “Chef Milton”, was the owner and general manager of the iconic Wise Cafeteria in New Orleans. Wise Cafeteria served many loyal patrons and community leaders until the last meal was served in June, 1989. Following this, Mr. Wise delivered the daily Times Picayune to residents throughout Slidell.
In his final years, Milton enjoyed his loving family as well as his devoted pets. His final wishes were to progress science with the ultimate donation of his remains to LSU Health Sciences Center. He’s finally going to College!
A memorial reception will be held on Thursday, August 23rd from 6-9 pm at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in the Family Life Center, 910 Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell, LA 70461
