Milton Wise - Online Memorial Website

When my duaghter Amanda was a toddler and growing up (from 1980),  my husband and I took Amanda to eat  at Wise's Cafeteria  at least once a week.  I felt a great loss when it closed.  I often said that I could not have raised Amanda without Wise's Cafeteria.

  I was working as an faculty member at the LSU Medical School during those years, and preparing family meals every day was difficult.    I could alwyas count on taking the family to Wise's if i did not have food prepared.  We lived in Mid-city and so the location of Wise's was perfect.

We enjoyed the New Orleans dishes, such as red beans and rice, stuffed peppers, fried chicken, etc. Each of us could choose what we felt like eating that day, and the price was very reasonable. We often saw and talked with other friends who ate there regularly also.  Wise's  had a very friendly, down- home atmosphere.


I continue to be grateful to Milton Wise and his family  for maintaining such a wonderful establsihement for so many years.  Only now do I realize that my classmate  at Dominican High School, Bradley Wise,  was the daughter of Milton Wise.  New Orleans is connected like that!  Bradley, you are blessed to spring from such a family!

What can we say about Milton.  He was a wonderful neighbor for the 20 years we lived across the street from him.  When you greeted him outside you never knew what he was going to say.  But he always made us smile.  We will miss you Milton.
